How to use Choose a local video and check its dimensions, duration and codecs. Begin with the balanced preset; smaller dimensions and bitrates usually reduce size. Choose MP4 or WebM, optionally trim by seconds, and keep or remove audio explicitly. Automatic output selects a format that can encode both video and the audio you chose to retain. Compare actual bytes, play the copy and download it separately from your original. Compression can lose detail; test audio, timing and playback before sharing. The sample is a short synthetic clip with a test tone. It contains no personal footage. Try a 640 px long edge and compare the result.
Requires a secure context and browser WebCodecs support. Supported containers do not guarantee supported codecs. One video track and at most one audio track are accepted; HDR is excluded. Rotation is applied to pixels, descriptive metadata is omitted, transparency is flattened, and retained audio is re-encoded at 48 kHz with at most two channels. Even output dimensions can add a thin border. No fixed reduction percentage is promised.
